Unaccountable State Controlled Charter Schools Bill Moves Forward in House

Despite major objections from stakeholders, HB356, a bill to shift control away from local school division authority on the authorization of charter schools moves forward in the House of Delegates. VEA testified in strong opposition to HB356. “Giving authority to the state to override local voice and authority is the wrong way to go”, explained VEA Director of Government Relations, Shane Riddle. “We believe this measure will cause division amongst our school communities.” Watch the testimony on HB356 HERE.

The House Education Committee voted to report the bill favorably by a vote of 12-10.
